SfP-982063 International Conference in Sofia, 2009

International Conference on Security and Defence R&D Management: Policy, Concepts and Models had been held under the framework of the NATO project SfP-982063 in Bulgarian city of Varna.


The Conference on Security and Defence R&D Management had following objectives:

  • to discuss the applicable, sustainable and realistic policies, concepts and models for R&D management in support of defence industry transition, which has to provide co-ordination with NATO and EU requirements;
  • to give recommendations for harmonization of the national priorities and R&D policy;
  • to find ways for implementation of IT solutions in support of R&D Management Model and provide framework for further development of educational and training packages.

To achieve these objectives, the Conference was focused on:

  • the first Conference follow-up: Concept and model development;
  • the findings from NATO and EU countries experience;
  • implementation of NATO and EU requirements at national level;
  • elaboration of national policy framework;
  • translation of national priorities to R&D policy;
  • docial and environment impact of R&D policy;

Scientists, and experts on Defence and Security Economics and Management, as well as managers from defence industry from Bulgaria, Romania, FYROM, UK, Poland and Croatia participated to the Conference. You can see participants list here.

The Conference had been opened with greetings to the participants from Prof. Dr. Tilcho Ivanov, Dr. Heinrich Buch, Prof. Dr. Anna Nedyalkova, Rector of Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chavdar Aleksandrov, Dean of Navigation Faculty (on behalf of the Rector of the N. Y. Vaptsarov Naval Academy)




After warm welcoming speeches conference work started with Online Video Conference, provided by Mr. Goran Mihelcic. The Video Conference was held with IABG and PEWOTECH Business Consulting.
